My 1975 Corvette runs rich. I know my husband (deceased) wanted it like that because he thought it gave more power that way. The car is powerful but, does running rich do anything to the motor. I do not like the "soot" that appears in the side pipes

Mary, sorry you have not gotten a straight answer. Rich is better than lean in that lean will burn your valves & postons. Correct is best for power, performance and soot.

my corvette of the same year had a plastic float i swapped it out for a metal float. This stopped my rich problems. It doesn't hurt to rebuild the carbureator while you have it off the car.

INTERNAL CARB LEAK. BAD FLOAT. LEAKING NEEDLE/SEAT.
COULD SIMPLY NEEDS ADJUSTING OR WILL NEED OVERHAUL.
