My 82 has developed a shudder at low rpm when it shifts. One mechanic suggested a can of trans x and adjusting the cable to the converter... has this worked for anyone or should I just get her to the tranny shop! Any thoughts on what a converter rebuild or replacement might cost.

Not a big fan of miracle in a can. Torque converter clutch shudder is a common problem in older GM vehicles and can often be cured with a simple flush. Not a drop the pan and change part of the fluid but a true flush. Flushing a transmission cleans the inside
of the transmission and the inside of the torque converter. But be very wary of places that sell fluid exchanges and call them flushes as this like dropping the pan can actually make problems worse rather than better because neither cleans the problem areas. If it needs a
replacement converter expect to pay about $1,500.00 for a quality job using a high end remanufactured converter.
